Hannover Messe 2017 will demonstrate how companies with limited resources can pinpoint and harness the power of digitalization. This year's trade fair lineup includes Industrial Automation, Motion, Drive & Automation, Digital Factory, Energy, ComVac, Industrial Supply and Research and Technology. Poland is the official Partner Country for the 2017 show. The show takes place April 24-28 in Hannover, Germany. Here is a sample of some of the products and technologies on-hand during the show:
Kollmorgen (Hall 9, Stand D18)
Kollmorgen uses EtherCAT as the system bus for the second generation of its AKD2G servo amplifier. High-performance communication with EtherCAT also plays a vital role for the new PCMM motion controller. Both devices will be exhibited by Kollmorgen at Hannover Messe from April 24-28 2017 at the ETG user organization stand in Hall 9, Stand D18.
Machinery and plant manufacturers have a real advantage when safety technology communication is incorporated into the machine’s existing real-time communications. With this in mind, the second generation of AKD2G servo amplifier uses FSoE - the EtherCAT safety protocol - for safe communication. As safety and motion both run over the same cable, the need for additional secure wiring together with EA safety modules to control the safe motion functions has been eliminated. The AKD2G is particularly impressive in this regard: With safe brake control (SBC) and the integrated safe brake test (SBT), Kollmorgen provides an important safety function, for, as an example, the vertical axes on the controller side. Altra Industrial Motion (Hall 25, Stand C11)
Altra Industrial Motion will be displaying many of its brands at Hannover Messe 2017, showcasing a capability to offer premium engineering solutions for virtually any industrial sector. The global designer, producer and marketer of mechanical transmission equipment will be available to meet visitors in Hall 25, Stand C11 from April 24-28.
Thirteen Altra brands will be present at the show, including Bauer Gear Motor, Bibby Turboflex, Huco, Matrix, Stieber Clutch, Stromag, Svendborg Brakes, Twiflex, Warner Electric, Warner Linear, Wichita Clutch, TB Wood’s and Guardians.
On display will be a comprehensive range of industrial clutches, brakes, couplings, geared motors and actuators. The exhibition will also see Stromag’s Hannover debut as part of Altra, with the premium manufacturer of clutches, brakes, couplings and limit switches having joined the group in December. A separate Stromag stand will also be located in Hall 25, Stand J03.
A range of products will be available including many demonstrations to actively engage attendees with their application characteristics. Highlights include Warner Electric’s ERD GEN4 braking system, Stieber’s RDBK backstop, Huco Piston Dynatork Motors model and a running Bauer BK10 submersible bevel geared motor.
Expert engineers from all of the Altra brands present will be on hand to tackle questions or discuss requirements, providing a one-stop-shop for visitors to address all power transmission concerns. Such a range of expertise has naturally granted Altra a unique position in the market, with its global reach illustrated by the selection of European and American brands present.

The mechanical power transmission specialist has launched the ‘Altra Virtual Environments’ app for download to smartphones – everyone who downloads the app prior to the show will be eligible to claim a free pair of VR glasses at the Altra stand.
The app delivers an immersive, 360° insight into seven different industrial application environments. It uses high quality graphics and detailed interactive models to demonstrate how the brands within the Altra group of companies are able to provide efficient, reliable solutions.

Voith Turbo (Hall 23, Stand B39)
From April 24-28, visitors of the Voith stand (Hall 23, Booth B39) at the Hannover Messe will experience live how plant operators can save up to 70 percent of energy cost in the future, while simultaneously increasing productivity. Voith will be presenting its innovative hydraulic systems and products for control machines and plants under the motto "Progressive Hydraulic Solutions.” The spotlight will focus on the linear drives CLDP and HPD as well as Voith servo pumps.

The Voith CLDP servo drive (Closed Loop Differential Pump) can be used for all direct linear motions, especially when dynamic response, reproducibility and reliability are needed. Enhanced productivity, high energy efficiency, full programmable position or force control and longer lifetime of the drive, are attractive features for plant operators. They are almost wear-free and have an unrestricted overload protection. Voith hydraulic punching drives are complete systems with a modular design. Voith offers a "best-fit" drive system for every class of punching machine. The new HPD hybrid servo punch fits into this concept. It requires mechanically the same assembly surface as all Voith punching drives. Migration to HPD will require little or no change to the machine frame. The same applies to the electrical interface. Our HS4 controller version for HPD provides the same hardware interface and parameter structure as all HS4 versions of other Voith punch drives. The functional principle of HPD is based on a closed circuit hydraulic system. The pump is directly connected to the cylinder and operates as a hydrostatic transmission. In contrast to mechanical transmissions, the hydraulic transmissions and the linear cylinders are almost wear-free and extremely robust.
Maximum Productivity with Energy Savings of up to 70 Percent – The Voith Servo Pump
The future of hydraulics has arrived with servo pumps from Voith. Hydraulic applications with high demands on control technology are subject to greatly fluctuating stresses during operation. To ensure cost-effective operation even under these conditions, the Voith servo pump adjusts to the power actually needed over varying volume flows and motor speeds. This provides clear advantages over conventional systems, particularly in the part load range, with a uniformly high volume flow that is needed only rarely within an operating cycle. Sercos (Hall 9, Stand G28)
Sercos International, provider of the Sercos automation bus, will present the Sercos TSN demonstrator at Hannover Fair from April 24-28, 2017 in hall 9, booth G28. The demonstrator shows the transmission of the Sercos III real-time protocol via Ethernet standard IEEE 802.1 TSN (Time-Sensitive Networks).
The Sercos TSN demonstrator was created by the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW, University of Stuttgart) with support of several industry partners. It shows a real-time and multiprotocol-capable network infrastructure based on TSN for automation technology.
The demonstrator involves a TSN-based Sercos III SoftMaster with a Soft CNC from Industrielle Steuerungstechnik GmbH (ISG), which communicates with Sercos III servo drives from Bosch Rexroth via Hirschmann Automation TSN switches. Through this TSN network infrastructure, video streams from a webcam are transmitted to a remote display in parallel with the servo communication, without impairing the characteristics and functionality of the Sercos real-time communication.
The demonstrator constitutes a proof of concept, with which the native real-time capability of Sercos within a TSN network is presented on an exemplary basis.
Ethernet standard IEEE 802.1 brings with it mechanisms that ensure open, real-time-capable communication and also support high, future data rates. A key aspect here is the IEEE 802.1Q standard, which specifies the division of physical networks into several logically separated, prioritized virtual networks (VLANs). In turn, the VLAN priorities enable optimized scheduling of the packages from all virtual networks, with transmission safety and a deterministic latency. To create a uniform time base in the entire network and to transfer the traffic classes within synchronous time slots, mechanisms from IEEE 802.1-AS / IEEE 1588 (distributed clock synchronization) and IEEE 802.1Qbv (time-multiplex procedure) are used.
The aim in designing the Sercos TSN demonstrator was to expand a typical setup consisting of a numerical control and drives by adding an interposed, real-time-capable network. A key element here was the integration of the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) according to IEEE 1588 into the control, so that all network participants use a uniform time base. In the analysis of the Sercos real-time behavior, it was shown that the errors in the time synchronization were restricted to a two-digit nanosecond range. With this analysis, it could be proven that the synchronization, which is also contained in the TSN standard as IEEE 802.1-AS, achieves accuracy that is sufficient for demanding motion applications. Additional analyses on the demonstration system will establish the limits of real-time communication of Sercos via TSN by varying the cycle time and the number of participants. (www.sercos.com)
