Hannover Messe Bearings Preview

PTE will feature a variety of new component technologies online for bearings, motors, couplings, brakes, gear drives, and motion control systems leading up to Hannover Messe 2023 in Germany. Here is a preview of some bearings suppliers to check out if you're planning on attending the event online or in-person in April.

NKE Austria (Hall 5, Stand B05)

NKE Austria GmbH will present bearings for wind turbine gearboxes and generators. The Austrian bearing manufacturer has more than 20 years of experience in the wind energy sector. NKE bearings have been installed in more than 4,000 wind turbines across Europe, the USA and China, equivalent to more than 10,000 MW of installed power. 

"NKE bearings are used in the most important wind turbine components, that is gearboxes and generators, or as main bearings. We have final product approvals with major wind turbine manufacturers and are in the final stages of the approval process with others,” says Matthias Ortner, managing director of NKE in Steyr. "The strategic focus on sustainable technologies such as wind power and rail vehicles that was introduced three years ago is now bearing fruit. NKE is gaining a reputation as an innovative supplier of bearings for wind power.”

For example, NKE bearings are present in all bearing applications of the Envision gearbox: from the carrier (rotor side, generator side) to the high-speed shaft, including the intermediate shaft and planetary gearbox shafts. “For high-speed shafts, NKE cooperates with the customer’s engineering team to design bearings with enhanced profile and contact pressure,” says Michael Rössl of NKE’s Application Engineering department. “Another example are our new bearings with Power-Density technology: they are only 20 percent larger than conventional bearings, but they generate twice as much energy to optimize the output of the wind turbines and extract as much energy as possible from the air stream.”

C&U Europe (Hall 5, Stand C18)

Angular contact ball bearings can take radial load and axial load simultaneously. Single row angular contact ball bearings can only take single direction axial load, so angular contact ball bearings are often used in pairs. The paired angular contact ball bearings with manufactured clearance are the most convenient. The contact angles between steel balls and the inner ring/outer ring fall into 15°, 25° and 40°. The larger the contact angle is, the higher axial load it can take. The smaller the contact angle is, the higher rotation speed. Generally, contact angle of 15° is applied to high precision and high-speed bearings.

Single row angular contact ball bearings are designed with a certain contact angle, so they are suited to take single direction axial load or combined load. Structurally, axial thrust load will be generated after taking radial load, so angular contact ball bearings are often used in pairs, or more than two sets matched. The rigidity of single row angular contact ball bearings can be improved through preloading. Therefore, they are applied to the spindles of machine tools with high rotating precision. The contact angles of standard products including 15°, 25°, 40°. The cages of bearings with 15° and 25° contact angles are often made of plastic. The materials of the cages of bearing with 40° contact angle are made of copper, nylon, steel sheet, etc.

Timken (Hall 6, Stand B39)

Timken’s comprehensive line of single-, double- and multi-row Timken cylindrical roller bearings help extend equipment life and lower maintenance costs.

Single-row EMA series cylindrical roller bearings incorporate a unique cage design, proprietary internal geometry and special surface textures, available in a wide variety of size ranges and configurations.
