Kollmorgen has announced the new AKD2G 24A drive. Designed for applications in precision multi-axis servo systems, the new single-cable optimized drive builds upon the strengths of the AKD2G portfolio including upgraded safety features, SD card backup and a graphical display with higher amperage to support more applications with higher power requirements such as conveyors and vertical lifting applications.

With the introduction of their first IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motor in 2021, Nord Drivesystems delivered a new standard of energy efficiency, variant reduction, and reduced operating costs. This Size 71 TENV smooth surface design has paved the way for additions to the IE5+ product family including ventilated designs and larger frame sizes to expand performance and versatility even further. These motors are UL/CSA certified and can be utilized across a wide range of industries and applications.

The Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA) honored Dennis Franklin, an Essex Brownell retiree, for the EASA Exceptional Achievement Service Award.

Nidec’s “Super Premium” and above variable frequency drive (VFD) motors and all-in-one, integrated motors and controls are leading the industry with efficiency ratings of IE 4 and IE 5 for remarkable energy savings compared to traditional single speed motors.  

SEW-Eurodrive is expanding its comprehensive portfolio to include new motors for purely inverter operation. The synchronous motors of the DR2C.. series satisfy the highest standard-based efficiency class IE5 for adjustable-speed electric motors. ELIN Motoren and Voith launch the first electric motor with integrated safety coupling for the main drive of tunnel boring machines. Water-cooled asynchronous motors from ELIN Motoren contain either the Voith SafeSet to safeguard the entire drive train or the Voith SmartSet for continuous operation, even with frequent torque peaks. Torque limitation increases the productivity of the TBM, protects the machine components, and avoids costly downtimes.

ABB recently announced it has completed its acquisition of the Siemens low voltage NEMA motor business. The transaction was originally announced August 11, 2022, and financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The business employs around 600 people and generated revenues of approximately $63 million in 2021.
