The small spring applied brake series from Ogura (models RNB 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8) have been redesigned and will now have a thinner profile. The brakes overall reduction in thickness is around 10 percent. (RNB models 1.6, 3 and 5 are 30 percent thinner). Advances in friction material have allowed the brakes to maintain their same torque rating while eliminating the need for higher force springs and a correspondently higher wattage coil. The new thinner spring applied holding brakes are suitable for the servo motor and robotics industries where size and weight is always a concern. Since less steel is used in the coil shell and less copper in the windings, cost of the brakes are also lower than the current RNB series. On some of the models, the outside diameter has been slightly reduced but all of the models have the same through whole mounting dimensions as the current RNB brakes, so brake models will be interchangeable.
