Based on the proven ROBA-DS steel disk pack coupling, Mayr Power Transmission developed a weight-optimized aluminum version. Compared to the steel version, the outer diameter of this new design has been reduced by up to 10 mm; the mass and mass inertia range from 40 to 60 percent of the steel version, depending on the design and size. The performance density, however, remains unchanged. It is tailored to meet the requirements of high-speed applications, for example in the field of test bench technology.
Nine months into building the most powerful test bench for main bearings to date, R&D Test Systems, Denmark’s wind turbine test specialist, has completed the 3,700 metric ton foundation and is now designing and welding the test bench parts that will perform extreme test loads on main bearings for 25 MW wind turbines. With delivery in 2025, the test bench is bound for LORC’s new main bearing test facility.
In its largest order to date, Danish wind turbine test specialist R&D Test Systems will develop the 30 MW powertrain and gearbox test bench for ZF Wind Power’s future “Test & Prototype Center” at Lommel, Belgium. Capable of simulating the multiplicity of wind loads that a nacelle powertrain might experience in its lifetime, the test rig, to be delivered in 2024, will help improve product reliability and shorten time to market.
ABB has upgraded its extensive range of High Dynamic Performance (HDP) induction motors. This creates new opportunities for machine-building OEMs seeking motor and drive solutions with dynamic response and high-power density. The motors are typically used in plastic and rubber extrusion, injection molding, winders, lifting, conveyors, test benches and machine tools.
