Electrification is changing the automotive industry wholesale. This online article looks at training and transmission technology courses available in the e-mobility sector today. Coursework includes examining gearbox structure to battery technology to health and safety issues. This expansion continues to prepare engineers, manufacturers, and technicians for the shift toward electric vehicles.
ZF Aftermarket Expands Training Offering
ZF Aftermarket has entered 2023 with a significantly expanded training offering. For example, workshops will benefit from six new, free online training courses, including a guide to installing air springs and CDC shock absorbers. In addition, there are two new training courses on transmission technology. In view of the changes in the automotive market, the courses on high-voltage technology, driver assistance and safety systems are becoming increasingly important.
Ongoing training is vital for automotive workshops to remain competitive in a rapidly changing repair market. That is why ZF Aftermarket provides its partners with an extensive training program, which has been significantly expanded once again for 2023.
With this in mind, the ZF experts have developed six new, free online training courses which not only deal with the products themselves but look at the bigger picture. For example, participants on the Air Springs & CDC Shock Absorbers course will receive a market overview as well as many tips for fault detection, installation and removal.
In addition, there are two new training courses on transmission technology. One deals with dual clutch transmissions and focuses on the widely used DSG transmissions. On this course, participants will learn about the structure of the gearbox and the oil requirements as well as the correct oil change procedure. The second new course on this subject, deals with implementation and wider business potential of oil changes on ZF automatic transmissions.
High-voltage training programs for different target groups
The classroom-based training courses for brakes, safety systems and e-mobility which were in great demand last year, will once again form part of the core training portfolio in 2023. This is important as the number of vehicles with electrified drives continues to grow. Last year, 362,093 plug-in hybrids and 470,559 electric cars found a buyer in Germany alone (source: KBA).
Technicians need to be qualified to at least level 2S (according to DGUV Information 209-093) to work on high-voltage drives. But given the market growth, it makes sense for everyone to receive a basic level of high-voltage training. In conjunction with the employers' liability insurance association, ZF Aftermarket offers a Level 1S qualification. This consists of an online training course in which participants gain awareness of the safety measures required to work with high-voltage systems.
The ZF training program is not solely aimed at automotive workshops. Members of fire brigades and rescue services receive important and, in extreme cases, life-saving tips for handling electric cars and hybrid vehicles in the online course ’electrified car drives’.
Free online training courses are also available
ZF Aftermarket categorizes its training offer by the letters S, M, L and XL to aid understanding of length and depth, and to make the booking process easier: S stands for compact, free online training courses lasting a maximum of 90 minutes. M and L trainings take place online or in person and can last up to one day. The XL format is exclusively for ZF [pro]Tech partners of ZF Aftermarket and lasts up to two days.
All trainings can be booked on the new ZF [pro]Academy portal. Depending on the topic and the desired scope of learning, interested parties are guided to the most suitable trainings and convenient dates for them. With ZF [pro]Academy, the various training offers of ZF’s aftermarket organization are now available under one roof and training participants get the complete technical know-how of a leading technology group from a single source.

TÜV Rheinland Updates Electromobility Seminars
New requirements for automotive workshops and mechanics accompany the growth of the electric automobile market. Employers are responsible for ensuring their staff are able to assess electrical work, recognize possible hazards and implement safety measures. Moreover, earning recognized qualifications in the field of e-mobility is an investment in the future.
These are the skills participants can develop through TÜV Rheinland electromobility seminars. The organization will address the central challenges of electric and hybrid automobiles as well as safety aspects, energy storage technology, vehicle integration and more. Practical instruction is the centerpiece of these courses, allowing learners to integrate new knowledge about the behavior and characteristics of electromobility components. In addition to scheduled sessions in e-mobility, TÜV Rheinland provides in-house training to suit your specific needs.
