Ball valves, gate valves, globe valves, butterfly valves, check valves, and valve assemblies: all these are common and critical components in the oil and gas industry. Their job of regulating hazardous fluid flow in pipelines and piping systems underscores the importance of keeping them in peak operating condition. Unfortunately, one of the most common enemies of valve integrity is rust, which can attack and deteriorate valves during hydrotesting, shipping, and layup. The following tips from Cortec Corporation make it easy to achieve successful preservation during the three main phases of a valve’s non-operational lifecycle.
In this classic science fiction tale, the protagonist has his futuristic electricity-powered submarine almost destroyed by a giant squid. What if Capt. Nemo created a mechanical “octopus” Kraken that he could pilot to attack and defeat his actual, biological nemesis?
The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA), the leading association for the industrial power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) distribution channel, welcomes a new distributor member: Nelson Electric Motors (Opelika, Ala.)

Siemens is extending its Sinamics G120C-series of drives to include three new frame sizes for high power output ranges. The new frame sizes cover the power output range from 22 to 132 kilowatts (kW), making the series available from 0.55 kW to 132 kW. Standard features of the series include a compact design with optional filter, long cable lengths, full integration into the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal and simple control and commissioning.
Gasoline engines, pumps, generators and other machines operating in rugged environments require long-lasting components to ensure successful performance. Clutches designed with durable materials can prevent breakdowns, which would otherwise lead to expensive maintenance and downtime. One example of a ruggedized clutch — the Carlyle Johnson's EPC multiple disc electric pulley clutch — consists of a standard electromagnetic multiple disc design and utilizes oil shear to enhance service life.
Overall, the Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia saw 3,815 attendees, hosted 94 technical sessions, and had 274 exhibiting companies. Many attendees commented on the value of networking conversation at the show. From 2021 to 2022, TPS saw an increase in international delegates, with just 19 countries represented in 2021, to 44 countries represented in 2022. Below is a taste of the booths we had the chance to visit.
One of the world’s top fertilizer producers operates a big fertilizer complex in South America. A few years ago, the company started an expansion project that includes three additional phosphoric acid concentration lines. Sulzer was selected to supply the critical evaporator circulation pumps.
