Nord Drivesystems is once again attending the International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) to showcase their solutions for the poultry and meat processing industry. Nord’s modular product system includes compact gear units, high-efficiency electric motors, and precise, intelligent electronic controls with a variety of surface protection options. This year’s expo is taking place January 30 – February 1, 2024, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA.
Unless you work for a major network, you’ve probably never heard of them. But without the efforts of Drew
Farrow and the team at ShowFab many of your favorite Broadway shows, news programs, and broadcast
sporting events would not be possible. That’s because there’d be no colorful backdrops, no glitzy displays,
and no lights or cameras moving silently overhead.
The reason they’re silent? Nord Drivesystems whose gearmotors position the massive scenery seen
moving in and above the sets of The Today Show, Fox News, Fox Sports, The NFL Network, and
NewsNation, to name a few.
Nord supports companies in undertaking the use of high efficiency electric motors funded by a program of the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) and thus taking an important step towards energy efficiency and sustainability. Funding is available for both drives in new plants and conversions to more efficient systems, with up to 40 percent of the investment costs being covered.
With the introduction of their first IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motor in 2021, Nord Drivesystems delivered a new standard of energy efficiency, variant reduction, and reduced operating costs. This Size 71 TENV smooth surface design has paved the way for additions to the IE5+ product family including ventilated designs and larger frame sizes to expand performance and versatility even further. These motors are UL/CSA certified and can be utilized across a wide range of industries and applications.
Harsh operating conditions are present in many industries such as food and beverage, bakery, automotive parts washing, chemical, water treatment, marine, car wash, and pharmaceutical industries. Applications in these environments are often subjected to intensive cleaning, high-pressure washing, and disinfection processes to meet the highly regulated, hygienic standards. To prevent gear motors from material destruction due to the rigorous cleaning agents and disinfectants, Nord Drivesystems developed nsd tupH – a sealed surface conversion system that ensures easy yet safe cleaning, ultimate surface durability, and wear resistance.
Nord’s newly improved NEMA and IEC input adapters offer improved mechanical and thermal performance, giving users more flexibility in designing drive systems and allowing for a broader range of application and environment-specific concepts through extended options such as integrated backstops and speed sensors. The redesigned input adapters are available NEMA sizes 250TC – 400TC and from IEC sizes 160 – 315
Nord Drivesystems has seen exponential growth over the last several years as more companies incorporate automation into their workflow. In 2022, they had a record-breaking year and achieved over $1 Billion in sales for the first time in company history. The U.S. subsidiary of this family-owned German company currently operates out of three separate facilities– Corona, CA, Charlotte, NC, and Waunakee, WI, which also serves as their U.S. corporate headquarters.
Nord Drivesystems continuously looks for opportunities to gain manufacturing efficiencies and implement practices that have less impact on the environment. In 2012, Fertigungstechnik Nord, a member of the Nord Drivesystems Group located in Gadebusch, Germany, developed a concept for heat recovery from machine tools in their production areas.
Nord Drivesystems is highly familiar with the packaging industry’s specific requirements and has developed specialized solutions for end-of-line packaging applications.
