Predictive analytics will be all over IMTS 2024 including the Automation Sector, accelerated by SPS—smart production solutions. Visitors will find a broad range of digital solutions at IMTS 2024 at McCormick Place in Chicago on Sept. 9–14.
We’re in the middle of industrial trade show season, and our team has been traveling to various events around the country to uncover the most relevant new technology related to power transmission and motion control. But we’re not done yet. In fact, I’d like to call your attention to two upcoming events that are of particular note.
Development of Automation Sector at IMTS 2024 and SPS – Smart Production Solutions 2025 trade show in Atlanta, Georgia

Two of the global manufacturing industry’s premier organizations, AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology and Mesago, a subsidiary of Messe Frankfurt Group, today announced a collaboration to create the Automation Sector at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show in 2024, and SPS – Smart Production Solutions in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2025.
The Smartforce Student Summit will be held at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show, Sept. 12-17, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Produced by the Smartforce Development team of AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology, which owns and operates IMTS, the Student Summit brings together students from elementary school through college, scout troops, robotics and STEM clubs, home-schooled students, and educators of all levels to explore the latest Industry 4.0 digital technologies driving manufacturing today.
There would have been an incredible lineup of products and technologies in Chicago in the Hannover Messe USA pavilion at IMTS 2020 -- everything from cobots and smart factory automation solutions to digital twins and mechanical power transmission components. Unfortunately, the planet had other ideas this year and we continue to conduct business on laptops, smartphones and Zoom meetings for the foreseeable future.
Normally at this time of year we talk a lot about trade shows. We go to manufacturing and engineering events because that's where technology-oriented companies often unveil their innovations. Like many of you, we want to see that technology in person, talk to the experts who created it and better understand how it fits into the overall manufacturing and engineering landscape. One of our most important missions is learning about that information and sharing it with all of you.
A big trade show can be extremely overwhelming. There are so many important suppliers to talk to, it's often hard to know even where to start, let alone how to plan a strategy to maximize your time spent.
Kate, a sophomore studying engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, has a genuine interest in manufacturing, so it was natural that she attend IMTS. But the other three? My kids? Well, let’s just say that their interests lie elsewhere. Matt, also a sophomore, is studying business at UW-Platteville. Emily, a sophomore in high school, wants to join the Peace Corps. Renee, an eighth grader, wants to be a surgeon.
