NORD Offers MaxxDrive XT Series Right-Angle Gear Units
July 8, 2020
NORD provides robust industrial gear units that are characterized by very high power density, quiet operation, and top reliability. The modular system with its many configuration options ensures an extremely high level of design flexibility.
MaxxDrive industrial gear units provide high output torques from 132,000 – 2,250,000 lb-in. and are ideal for use in heavy-duty applications such as bucket elevators, agitators, belt drives, mixers, mills, drums and crushers. Thanks to their rigid one-piece Unicase housing they achieve a longer bearing life than gear casings manufactured from jointed parts. They also ensure efficient power transmission and high tolerance for peak loads and impacts. Additionally, their large low-friction rolling bearings allow for extremely high axial and radial load capacities and high-precision axis alignment ensures quiet operation and a long, low maintenance service life. These gear units are offered as parallel gear units or as right-angle gear units and cover speed ratios from 5.54:1 – 400:1, as well as up to 30,000:1 with an auxiliary primary stage gear unit. Mounting and fastening can take place on all six sides of the gear unit.
NORD has developed its MaxxDrive XT Series two-stage, right-angle gear units for applications where high speed (low ratios) and high power performance are required. As a standard, the series is equipped with a ribbed Unicase housing and integrated axial fan. Due to the increased surface area and air guide covers, cooling air flow is increased to achieve a very high thermal limit. In many cases, additional cooling is not required for these units. Large roller bearings and center distance also increase the load capacity and service life of the components.
Because NORD’s solutions are based on a modular system, they can offer complete, customized drive systems for a wide variety of heavy-duty applications. This modularity also provides attractive solutions for price-sensitive industries with a comprehensive range of variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, and gear units, as well as attached components like couplings, brakes, base swing frames, and many other options. For example, various versions of drive and driven shafts, mountings, sealing systems, back stops, auxiliary gear units, cooling equipment, and sensors for condition monitoring (speed, temperature, vibrations, etc.) are available. For each application, respective features are tailored to the specific use of each unit, such as hydraulic couplings, or Taconite seals that effectively protect shaft sealing rings against abrasive dust and corrosion. This customization ensures that each unit will perform at the highest level throughout its entire lifecycle.
