Oerlikon Fairfield offers new additions to their final drive solutions developed for track driven mobile equipment applications. These new additions include the CT05M and CT07M, part of a family of Torque-Hub products for use with off-highway equipment. These drives are specifically designed for the harsh working environment they will encounter with demanding mobile applications, such as compact track loader (CTL) machines. These final drives use an integrated axial piston motor and a compact, two-stage planetary reduction.
The latest technology was considered early in the design process for both the CT05M and the CT07M, with an emphasis on helping OEMs meet the regulatory challenges they face with upcoming diesel engine emission requirements. These new regulations may affect certain engine characteristics such as requiring a reduction in operating speeds to accommodate fuel injection timing, which can lead to reduced pump flow. This is a challenge for OEMs who want to maintain or increase vehicle speed. To solve this problem, the two-speed final drives were designed specifically to have a high displacement ratio between maximum and minimum displacements. The lower minimum displacement values allow for higher speeds even if pump flow is reduced resulting from engine speed reductions. In addition to the minimum displacement values noted in the table above, Fairfield can also provide further choices for minimum displacement options to enable the OEM to fine tune machine performance.
A further advantage of the high displacement ratio is the opportunity for the OEM to incorporate the same drive system over a range of machine sizes. The high displacement ratio allows these drives to be adaptable to changes in pump size, rolling radius (sprocket) and vehicle speed design requirements.
Other features of these integrated final drive designs include a large servo piston for a smoother shift and an optional speed sensor that has temperature sensing capabilities. An integrated loop flushing valve is provided for added cooling and improved fluid quality, and both drives come with an integrated spring-applied, hydraulically-released brake capable of 100 panic stops with full hydraulic power and maximum vehicle inertia. The brake design also incorporates an active flushing feature to allow for deep case cooling. A mechanical face seal with a protective seal labyrinth is standard to protect the final drive from any foreign contamination.
The CT05M and CT07M have been through rigorous and inclusive testing both in the lab as well as in the field. This validation process equates to thousands of hours of machine durability testing and a successful product launch at a major OEM producer of compact track loader machines.
