R+W America recently introduced its BK5 coupling series to facilitate motor tests and maintenance issues. According to the company’s press release, single-piece couplings can be challenging due to difficult installation and removal procedures.
The BK5 series uses a tapered male segment, manufactured from reinforced plastic, which makes for a backlash-free fit with the precision-machined, female segment. The “blind mate” feature, available in single-position and multi-position orientations, allows motors to be axially plugged into their drive systems.
The BK5 series is suitable for electronic motor test applications by allowing flexibility across lateral-, angular-, and axial-shaft misalignments. They can also be balanced to operate smoothly at speeds in excess of 60,000 RPM upon request. Sizes range from 3 to 80 mm with or without keyways. Torque capacities range from 1.5 to 1,500 Nm.
