Sandvik Coromat and Camito Sign Cooperative Agreement
April 6, 2006
Sandvik Coromant and Camito signed a cooperation agreement for further mutual development and improvement of the technology for machining Camito drives for the automotive industry. The companies aim to shorten lead times in the production of new vehicles, through this technology.
Under this cooperation, both parties will coordinate their respective technology centers into a single unit in southern Sweden. Research, development and training will occur at this center as well as some reference manufacturing and the manufacturing of high volume dies for local customers.
In addition, marketing the Camito concept to a customer base of automotive manufacturers will be a cooperative effort and Sandvik Coromat will become a preferred supplier of tools and machining strategies within the framework of this cooperation.
Camito developed and patented a method for melting together gray or ductile iron with tooling steel for the production of dies for the automotive industry. According to Sandvik Coromat's press release, this process reduces the manual activities in die molding as dies can now be cast in a solid piece.
