Worlds Smallest Linear Actuator Introduced by Haydon Switch & Instrument
March 16, 2005
The Size 8 hybrid external linear actuator was introduced by Haydon Switch & Instrument. The 0.8" size makes this the worlds smallest linear actuator.
This external linear actuator replaces a motor, coupling, lead screw and nut. In addition, shaft to lead screw couplers are not needed with this design. The rotating acme stainless steel lead screw is incorporated into the rotor.
Designed for obtaining linear travel in confined spaces, the actuator is manufactured with a lead screw that is an integral part of the motor with a mating nut translating along the screw. As the motor steps, the lead screw rotates but does not advance. The lead screw end can be machined to allow the use of out-of-board bearing support for long lead screw lengths.
