Nichiei has developed a unique gear design and manufacturing technology to produce a metal gear overmolded with a polymer, in this case polyetherimide (PEI), where the polymer contact surface area adds lubrication while maintaining the strength of the metal gear itself. Part of the challenge was meeting the tight tolerances and accuracy required, but Nichiei’s 20+ years of experience in injection molding high quality, high precision gears enabled them to meet this requirement.
